PROJECT

LAS BICICLETAS is an urban art exhibit created
by Mexican artist Gilberto Aceves Navarro.
It comprises 250 bicycle sculptures in black, white,
red and orange; colors that were used by the Mayan
culture to symbolize the four cardinal points.

The mission of LAS BICICLETAS is to promote
through art, the use of bicycles as an alternative mode
of transportation and to procure better living conditions
for all people in friendlier cities. Our objective is that
bicycles are universally recognized as vehicles of
happiness and health.

Seattle’s Pronto bike-share announced last week a new partnership with nonprofit housing provider Bellwether Housing to expand its fledgling subsidized membership program. Pronto says that, along with original housing partner Capitol Hill Housing, the move gives around 5,000 low- and moderate-income Seattle residents access to reduced-priced annual bike-share memberships.

European cycling strategy mean?
What does a European cycling strategy mean for the cycling industry? ECF and CIC are excited to announce an important step forward in EU support for cycling. The Roadmap for Cycling at EU level is taking shape and we are grateful for the strong support from the cycling industry in achieving this milestone in cycling advocacy. On 14th July 2015 the members of the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism committee recommended to include an EU Roadmap for Cycling in the European Commission’s Work Programme for 2016. The plenary is expected to confirm the committee vote in its September session. This is a significant step forward in ECF’s work to Read more More Details

In Roads Were Not Built for Cars, Carlton Reid explains that infrastructure for bicycles, tricycles, and more were the precursors to the later transportation system dominated by automobiles. Cycling enthusiasts will find plenty to interest here: they will enjoy learning about the influence of early cyclists on roadway development. And, while Reid spends much of his time on cycling, he is also careful to examine the history of roads as thoroughfares, transportation networks, public spaces, and symbols of broader trends. For the typical reader, though, Reid’s arguments would be more usefully condensed into a Read more More Details
